Birth records are available for Bath-on-the-Hudson, Greenbush, East Albany and the City of Rensselaer:
-Records are available: 1871-Present

Birth records can only be released to the individual themselves if over the age of 18 years, a parent listed on the birth record, a lawful representative or by a court order. A certified copy of a birth record for a person born within the City limits can be requested by mail or in person by coming to the City Clerk's Office. If mailing a request, please include a copy of your i.d. and the appropriate fees. 

You must have proper identification to obtain a certified copy of your birth certificate or the birth certificate of your child or children. A certified copy of a court order is required for children in your custody.

Birth records are NOT public records and their confidentiality is protected by New York State Public Health Law. Vital Records are not subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information Law (F.O.I.L.) and are not subject to public inspection.

The following information is required to obtain a Birth Record:
-Birth Name
-Date of Birth
-Father's Name
-Mother's Maiden Name
-Relationship of the Person Making the Request
-Purpose Certificate is Being Requested For

Identification Requirements:
-Driver's License
-Non-Driver's I.D.
-Passport
-Naturalization Papers
-Military I.D.
-Employer's Photo I.D.
-Two utility bills, showing appicant's name and address
-Police Report of lost or stolen I.D.

The fee for each certified copy is $10.00. If paying by check or money order, please make payable to the Rensselaer City Clerk.
