New 12 unit apartment building breathes new life into previously vacant lots

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (April. 30, 2019) – The City of Rensselaer and Rensselaer Development Group are proud to announce the opening of a brand new 12-unit apartment building on 1047 Broadway in Rensselaer, following a complete reconstruction of the street’s infrastructure.

Previously a series of vacant lots, 1047 Broadway is now home to 12 two-bedroom units, complete with washers and dryers, central air, and other luxury amenities.

Michael and Joe Casale started Rensselaer Development Group to serve a community need for more affordable housing options and have worked closely with the City of Rensselaer to build new construction apartments as part of their commitment to beautification, affordable living, and energy efficiency.

As Capital Region natives, their projects in Saratoga, Ballston Spa, Troy, and Rensselaer are intended to keep working professionals and families in the area, thus contributing to the economic development and revitalization of the city.

"We haven't seen this kind of new investment on Broadway in over 50 years. Looking at this new building today and knowing we have more on the way fills me with confidence that this is reflective of the revitalization that Rensselaer needs,” said Richard J. Mooney, mayor, City of Rensselaer.

"Rensselaer Development Group has done an excellent job with this new building. We're confident that these new apartments will help draw new people to our city and we're looking forward to seeing the next two open," said John DeFrancesco, common council president.

"Following the reconstruction of Broadway's infrastructure, we could not have asked for a better addition to our city. With more to come, we're thrilled to see our city moving forward," said Charles Moore, director of planning and development.

The brand-new building has already garnered interest from others interested in investing in the revitalized street. Rensselaer Development Group has plans to open an additional 24 units this year a few blocks down from the newly finished apartments.
