Applications for the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) are now being accepted through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance which helps low income households pay the cost of past due (arrears) drinking water and wastewater services. Eligibility is based on income, household size and the amount of past due bills owed to the City of Rensselaer. The funds will be used to cover and/or reduce arrearages, rates and fees associated with reconnection or prevention of disconnection of services as a public health measure. Translated information and applications are available on the website in multiple languages. Interested applicants are encouraged to learn more of this beneficial program and apply 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at: https://otda.ny.gov/programs/water-assistance/ or by calling the NYS LIHWAP Call Center: 1-833-690-0208 or toll free ODTA Hotline: 1-800-342-3009.
