In mid-June, Governor Cuomo signed Executive Order No. 203 — the “New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative” — requiring local police agencies to develop a plan and address policies, procedures, practices and deployment, including but not limited to the use of force. Governments with police agencies must adopt a plan by April 1 to be eligible for future state funding.
In response to the Executive Order, the City will convene a committee of community stakeholders to develop such plan. A meeting of the Rensselaer Police Reform Collaborative will commence at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 and shall be conducted through GoTo Meeting, a web-based video conferencing tool that will allow committee members to participate electronically and remotely. Please note, due to the COVID-19 pandemic this meeting will be conducted remotely and will not be held at City Hall.
Rensselaer residents are invited, and encouraged, to view the meeting via the Goto Meeting at approximately 6:00 PM. Please be patient upon joining the meeting. The Committee encourages residents and other persons to contribute to the review by providing information about, or expressing views concerning, the City of Rensselaer Police Department. Written comments can be submitted at any time by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
