The City of Rensselaer will hold a public hearing on July 3, 2024 at 6:30PM at Rensselaer City Hall for the purpose of hearing public comments on the City of Rensselaer’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of one or more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for the 2024 program year. The CDBG program is administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR) and in 2024 will make available to eligible local governments approximately:
$25 million for Public Infrastructure, Public Facilities and Community Planning
$15 million for Single Family and Multi Family Housing Rehabilitation (up to 4-units)
$10 million for Vacant Property Clearance
The City of Rensselaer is applying for 2024 CDBG funding as follows:
Up to $1.5 million for Public Infrastructure Improvements (water, sewer, drainage, curb and pavement along Broadway from Pine Street to Washington Avenue)
Up to $750,000.00 for Single Family and Multi Family Housing Rehabilitation (up to 4-units)
Up to $1 million for Vacant Property Clearance
The hearing will provide further information about the CDBG program, including progress towards beneficiary goals and program objectives, and will allow for citizen participation in the development of any proposed grant applications and/or to provide technical assistance to develop alternate proposals. Comments on the CDBG program or proposed project(s) will be received at this time. The hearing is being conducted pursuant to Section 570.486, Subpart I of the CFR and in compliance with the requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.

Public Infrastructure Improvements will involve targeted replacement of lead water supply laterals and plumbing along with repairing any disturbed sewer, drainage, curb and pavement in the target area (all of neighborhoods in Census Tract Block Groups 516.1 and 516.2 which begin on Partition Street and goes north along Broadway past Pine Street to and around Washington Avenue up to3rd Street).
Single Family and/or Multi Family Housing Rehabilitation (up to 4-units) will occur throughout the City to eligible households (a waiting list will be maintained). There are Income Limits and limits on the amount of work that can be done with grant fuds.
Vacant Property Clearance will also occur throughout the City. This will involve providing assistance to property owners to properly demolish vacant and deteriorating structures that are impacting the safety of the public and the broader community.
