The City of Rensselaer will hold a public hearing on May 4th, 2022 at 6:30pm at The City of Rensselaer City Hall for the purpose of hearing public comments on the City of Rensselaer’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of one or more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) or Community Development Block Grant CARES (CDBG-CV) applications for the 2020 program year. The CDBG program is administered by New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), and will make available to eligible local governments approximately $127,000,000.00 for the 2020 program year for housing, economic development, public facilities, public infrastructure, and planning activities, with the principal purpose of benefitting low/moderate income persons. In addition, HCR has made available approximately $127 Million in program year 2020 CDBG-CV funds to prevent, prepare, and respond to the Coronavirus pandemic. The City of Rensselaer is applying for $1,927,000.00 in CDBG funds to 1. improve the provision of services and safety of public facilities used for outdoor gathering and recreation in the City’s densely populated LMI Neighborhoods and 2. provide public wifi in at least one City park within the grant’s immediate service area. Both are proposed to help reduce transmission of COVID by allowing for distanced social gatherings and extended time spent outdoors. The hearing will provide further information about the CDBG program and will allow for citizen participation in the development of any proposed grant applications and/or to provide technical assistance to develop alternate proposals. Comments on the CDBG program or proposed project(s) will be received at this time. The hearing is being conducted pursuant to Section 570.486, Subpart I of the CFR and in compliance with the requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.
