Notice of Public Hearing

City of Rensselaer, New York

 

The City of Rensselaer will hold a public hearing on September 21, 2022 at 6:30pm at City Hall, 62 Washington Street, Rensselaer, NY for the purpose of hearing public comments on the City of Rensselaer’s Restore NY Round 6 grant application for the 2022 program year. The Restore NY program is administered by Empire State Development. The hearing will provide further information about the Restore NY grant program and will allow for citizen participation in the development of the proposed grant application.

 

The City of Rensselaer will submit an application for funding to the Empire State Development Corporation’s Restore New York Communities Initiative program. If awarded, up to $2 million in Empire State Development funds will go toward the construction of the rehabilitation of the former Barnet Mills Textile Mill by BBL Barnet LLC.

The project site is located at 20 Forbes Avenue, Rensselaer, NY 12144; it is currently owned by Bath Springs Development Co. LLC. The primary property is 6.1 acres in size, is identified as Parcel 133.-3-7 which has a total assessed value of $249,000. The following are all tax parcels involved: 133.-3-7; 133.69-1-2 and 133.77-3-1 with a total aggregate assessed value of $297,700. 

Any costs incurred by the City as a result of this project will be covered by the developer, BBL Barnet LLC. In sponsoring the project, the City of Rensselaer stands to gain a great deal in terms of job creation, increased tax base, and opportunities for additional economic development.

For more information, interested parties are encouraged to attend the public hearing to be held at City Hall on September 21, 2022 at 6:30PM.  Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss and to comment on the proposed Property Assessment List. Written and verbal comments and questions will be considered and included with the grant application.
