The City of Rensselaer will hold a public hearing on July 15, 20246at 6:30PM at Rensselaer City Hall (62 Washington Street, Rensselaer, New York 12144) for the purpose of hearing public comments on the City of Rensselaer’s community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of one a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for the 2026 program year. The CDBG program is administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR) and is making approximately $25 million available statewide for Public Infrastructure Projects.

The City of Rensselaer is applying for 2026 CDBG funding as follows:
Up to $1.5 million for Public Infrastructure Improvements - to complete the elimination of Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) # 2 in the southern end of the city. This project will install a new, dedicated stormwater pipe network to separate stormwater from municipal wastewater, preventing untreated overflows into local waterways during heavy rainfall. To restore areas impacted by the underground utility work, the project will also include comprehensive surface repairs to affected sidewalks, streets, public parking areas, and open green spaces.
The hearing will provide further information about the CDBG program and will allow for citizen participation in the development of any proposed grant applications and/or to provide technical assistance to develop alternate proposals. Comments on the CDBG program or proposed project(s) will be received at this time. The hearing is being conducted pursuant to Section 570.486, Subpart I of the CFR and in compliance with the requirements of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.
