Construction can create significant stormwater runoff pollution if it is not managed correctly. For this reason, many construction projects will require a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. Specifically, any project that disturbs one or more acres of land through clearing, grading, excavating, or stockpiling of fill material will likely need a permit, When calculating the acreage of your project, remember to count the entire project, even if you are responsible for only a small portion.

Before initiating any construction project, ensure that you understand and are in compliance with all federal, state and local requirements regarding erosion control and reduction of stormwater runoff.

The links below will take you to a few documents on the subject of construction activities and stormwater pollution. For more specific information, your first call should be to the City of Rensselaer Building Inspector, who will be able to provide more specific guidance with respect to your particular project.
